Education costs soar in Sydney
Sydney leads the way in education costs for public schools, with total fees for prep to year 12 coming in at $150,323, up 59 per cent from last year. This figure is 22% higher than the national average of A$123,294. In contrast, Brisbane is one of the most affordable metropolitan areas, with public education costs at $101,064, but this is up 19% on the previous year. The most expensive place to study privately in Australia is Sydney, where a child starting school in 2025 is expected to pay $411,108 over 13 years, up 9% from 2024.
Cost of Catholic education in Canberra
Canberra has become the most expensive place in the country to receive a Catholic education, with a child starting school in 2025 expected to pay a total of $215,633, up 3 per cent on last year. Adelaide is the cheapest city for a Catholic education, with an estimated cost of $185,548, down 6 per cent on last year.
Education costs in Queensland
Public education costs are highest in regional and remote Queensland outside Brisbane, with an estimated 13-year cost of $90,267, 11 per cent higher than the national average. Catholic education costs also remain high, with an estimated 13-year cost of $157,805, although that’s down 4 per cent on last year.
